LONDON PORTER

Porter is one of the oldest styles of beer still being brewed today. The style is very English. London became known for it's Porters, due to the alkaline water which balances the acidic flavors of the dark roasted barley. The flavor is smoother and thus easier to drink. London's Porters were so popular in their time that great revolutionaries, like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, show billing records for hundreds of barrels during the revolution. The Declaration of Independence was even said to be drawn up over three pints of London Porter one evening. The irony must have been obvious. Although porters are thinner than stouts, they share similar flavors. The roasted flavor is not as pronounced and the bitterness is less present. Minerals were added to our water during brewing to replicate London water. In 300 gallons of beer, over one pound of minerals is needed. Faultline Brewing Company serves it's London Porter during the Winter months and periodically through the year.
