OKTOBERFEST

This beer is a lager (fermented at low temperature over a two month period.) Oktoberfest beer was traditionally served at the famous festival which runs from late September into October. Some breweries in Bavaria have abandon the Marzen (amber colored Oktoberfest style beer) for much lighter lagers, while others continue to produce this style for the fest. The origin of this beer is Vienna, Austria, where in the 18th century brewers first developed the technology to brew an amber colored beer, as opposed to dark. This style was named Vienna. Then in the 1800's, a Bavarian prince was to marry his princess and have a huge celebration. He timed the celebration around the harvest festivals common in Bavaria and contracted all the Munich breweries to brew beer in the latest style Vienna. They brewed it in March, lagered (aged) it all through the summer and served it at the festival. The month of March is pronounced Marz in the German language, so the beer Marzen relates to the month of March. The festival was such a success, they decided to celebrate it every year. Oktoberfest beer is very malty and slightly sweet. It is very clean with a complex and subtle mix of flavors. The color is an amber red and the bitterness is barely present. Faultline Brewing serves it's Oktoberfest during the Fall months starting in late September.
